Boss Battle: Bayonetta vs. Alex
crafted by: AlexBayonetta attacks: Stiletto Gun attack is effective!
- Smooth responsive controls, great animation, battles that make you feel responsible, rather than feeling cheated by the game..
- Turbo abstract style. This game surpasses any dream I have ever heard of in terms of sheer insanity.
- Weapons all feel very distinct, lots of attack combination, and a couple transformation keep the battles feeling fresh.
- Levels can be repeated for more money and improved score. Can continue playing after you beat the game.
- Lots of things to buy at the store: weapons, special attacks, accessories that grant bonuses, extra costumes.
- Lengthy adventure: 10-14 hours. Note: I probably only purchased 1/4 of the items in the store on my first play through, and even that was the cheap stuff
Alex attacks: moderate damage, Alex flees.
- The story and characters are not very interesting, nor does it make much sense.
- Abstract style feels repetitive during the second half of the game.
- Combat is so hectic it is sometimes difficult to see and properly use witch time.
- Items seem too expensive. I would have liked to see more of them, but have little interest in playing the game again.
- Crotch shots and glowing va-jay-jays

Battle Summary:
Bayonetta, the critical success of the new year. I originally chose Darksiders over Bayonetta back n January, because the game play sounded more in line with my tastes despite Bayonetta seeming to get overall better reviews. At first I really enjoyed the wackiness that engulfs EVERYTHING in the game, but it soon grew tiresome and I found myself looking for a more coherent story, and characters that were more easy to relate to. Bayonette is very arrogant and reminds me very much of the Dante from Devil May Cry 3 which I hated. There is a moment somewhat early in the game where Bayonetta meets a child and she seems to open up, showing her charming, softer side. But this is indeed only a moment and she returns to her normal arrogant self for the rest of the game.
The combat is very exciting and looks great. I love how various combination of weapons really change how the combat feels. My favorite weapons are a pair of mechanical burning claws that change color (i never figured out how or why) that either drop timed energy bombs or cause an instant energy explosion for high damage.

After this, Bayonetta went home, had a whiskey on the rocks, and went to sleep. Another typical day.
My only gripe with the game is that the entire game really rests on the combat, which although I enjoy, does not compel me to play, especially after beating the game. This game seems to fit nicely with fans of the Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden series, but personally, I'm a God of War fan, I'll be looking forward to reviewing that in the future.
Keep your eyes open for a Bayonetta vs. Darksiders / East vs. West article in the near future.
